New Powerlifting Magazine to Debut in November

Mark and Andee Bell plan to launch a new magazine that covers powerlifting. The appropriately named, POWER Magazine, will debut in November and will be distributed at the WPF Worlds in Las Vegas. There will be six issues a year.

Ed Coan will be on the cover of the first issue. Inside, will be an interview with the powerlifting legend.

Currently, Powerlifting USA is the only magazine which covers the sport, after Monster Muscle folded a couple of years ago.

Says Publisher Andee Bell: "POWER Magazine will bring a national spotlight to the strongest men and women in the world. We want to do for Powerlifting what Joe Weider did for Bodybuilding."

Each issue will contain information on the latest equipment, supplements, meets, lifting gear, workouts, and include interviews with the powerlifters who are making headlines.

Mark Bell is the owner of Super Training Gym in Sacramento, California. Andee Bell has been involved in magazine publishing and sales for over 10 years and is a nationally ranked swimmer.

I will be on the lookout for this, I want it in my magazine store

magazine stores still exist? ill pick up a copy next time im out byuing a CD or mailing a letter

people still buy cd's? people still mail letters?

I hope this goes well. PLUSA has the same tired stories again and again. They've had the same look for as long as I can remember. All succesful magazines go through revamps but PLUSA has not.

Monster Muscle was GREAT!! It had good pictures and fresh articles but they didn't know how to run a business.

Good luck Mark!! I will be purchasing my subscription as soon as it comes out. Stay Strong, J.R. Bolger

if its anything like the ST vids, it should at least make for a very humourous mag. I'd subscribe to it!

do you mean kroc wont be on every page of this mag? or have all of the usapl lifts noted perfectly in every issue, but not any other fed?

How will Meet Directors, and State Chairmen get there info in the magazine, such as up coming meets, results from the meets, pics. and so on.
Just curious, haven't seen anything on this?

Hopefully it will have articles about the newest and freshest flavors of pop tarts!! The real post training food! Also, I think it is time we bring back the Dunkaroo...

I'll subscribe!

I like PLUSA, but the closest thing they have to gear reviews is Dr.Judd complaining about all the new gear.......

I'll subscribe!

Please give the how too's. Ive been reading PL USA for years trying to figure out West Side Training. I know its often imitated never duplicated, but thats because they only tell you a 1/4 of what you really need to know and do. Louie said himself in an article a little bit of knowledge is dangerous, and that is true, I get a little bit of knowledge about West Side and when the program fails, I haved to go back to 3 sets of 8's, 5's and 3's to get my strength back. Im not criticizing West Side, I know they are the greatest in the world, but it wont work for me if I dont know how to do it. I need plain English, not all of these terms and percents. I know some people may criticize this post but its how I feel, and so do most of the guys at my gym. We dont have the luxury of making trips to Ohio to train. Like I said, I know Louie is the man but my dumb ass just dont follow what hes saying half the time. I guess I need a West Side for Idiots. Ha Ha.

It will be great to have another mag. covering the sport of PL but I for one have nothing but good things to say about Mike Lambert and PLUSA. He has provided results from all meets and listed any meet for free. Whether or not you like everything he prints, PLUSA has been a great mag.
Remember, these things cost money to produce, so if it takes Kroc on a bunch of pages, so be it. This mag. has been around alot longer than any others so he is obviously offering something that people like.

D.J I agree with everything that you said,I to have nothing but high revues for PLUSA.I have never been disappointed in this Mag.I feel that they cover everything very professionally and i well keep up my subscription.

Buy his books and dvds. You can't expect him to cover everything in the span of an article, or even a series of articles. The book is over 200 pages and covers everything.

On topic, I'm sure there'll be some how-to, and some good Westside coverage since Mark used to train there and that's how most of ST trains.

Can't wait!

Jon thanks for posting this.

I would like to say that I love PLUSA and have loved it for many years. Every new issue I get I read from cover to cover. Mike Lambert is a class act and I can only hope to be able to stick around as long as he has.

Thanks for all the support.

Mark

I will subscribe for sure.

Can the first issue please be about why belly benching is awesome?

I would like another mag I liked Monster Muscle. I have however subscribed to PLUSA for the past three decades. I like it and I think Mike Lambert has done a great job keeping all the lifters covered and interested in the sport. It is not perfect but I still look forward to getting PLUSA every month. Ken

I have the book and have to say that it is over priced and over hyped. Louie is a great guy, but everything he has is so damn expensive and out of my financial reach. Aside from that the book is pretty much just a collection of articles that he has written and mostly posted in the article section on the Westside site. Read the articles and some other interviews that are scattered for free on the web and don't worry about the book. I skimmed it once and never looked at it again. I learned nothing new than what I had known in the past.

Good Luck with this Mark. Nice to see more people giving back and drawing attention to our sport!

"USPF....the Legend continues......"

I will buy for sure.

I look forward to reading Mark’s new magazine, it is about time we as powerlifters get more things going. Congratulations to Mark for having the fortitude to launch such a huge project.

Hey Mark: I did not mean that i wouldnt subscribe to your magazine cant wait for it to come out,And have two mags to read a month.Good luck and i know it will go over well.

Well said, Mark, you are a class act. I fully agree. PLUSA is a great magazine, and I'm sure yours will be too. Two exellent Powerlifting mags a month, can't wait.

the timing makes me wonder if mr. bell's uspf break out to a new federation possibliity has anything to do with the magazine and his financial projects? the timing is interesting with regard to all this.

as for plusa and other mags, well, there isn't that big a market and what with free websites, you guys have your work ahead of you selling people who are now getting mostly what they want for free? plusa used to be the only way you could get results or meet info - since meet directors weren't that helpful usually even when they had names etc from feds?

all that being said, you still can't get info on meets when they exist and people still don't do a good job of publicizing enough so a lifter can get a few meets a year any more. places like PW do something nobody else does, they organize and put out info we all need but nobody puts out in a timely fashion.

with the economy as it is now, this is a risky venture putting out any new mags.

I will stick with Powerlifting USA.

Mike Lambert has proven time and time again to be a gentleman to do business with, whether as an advertiser, Meet Director, or subscriber.

I like plusa. But, I will definately buy this one. It would be great to have something fresh.

Hopefully, this one will have rankings too. And it would be cool to have a section where Dr. Judd and Billy Mimnaugh just go back and forth. It would be nice to hear both sides in print. lol.

I thought that monstermuscle used to be a good mag with good articles. Oh well.

PLUSA is a class act.

With that being said, you can only read 1 magazine a month?

Would love to see representatives of this new magazine come to Laughlin for the AAU World Bench, Deadlift and Pushpull and the International Powerlifting Championships Dec 5-6.

PLUSA is so old. No website to order a subscription I have to print an order form off a site? Why not sign up there?? Get with the times. I have no problem with businesses going under when they refuse to ignore change is necessary.

I have been a subscriber to PLUSA for a few years and find it informative and entertaining. I welcome the opportunity to take in as much information as I can and another monthly PL source sounds great!

Is there going to be an alternate cover with Ed Cone? Seeing him get back under the bar after being folded in half by that 315 bench has been an inspiration.

I second the alternate cover with ed cone. Ed cone is my favorite lifter at supertraining.

Hey Mark this sounds pretty sweet. How soon until we can subscribe to this?

I can get the first copy at Worlds.

I get PLUSA and look forward to each issue. I will also buy Power Magazine, just to help the economy since the stimulus package ain't workin'.LOL

Amazon.com carries PLUSA's online subscription which makes sense to me. If you're a small operation releasing one magazine, why not have a larger company with more experience control the IT needed to process orders/subscriptions. I get emails a month or two before my subscription is about to run out from amazon asking if I want to resubscribe.

Take a look at ``Training template`` by Jim Wendler at efs...it's westside in it's simplest way. The template is with or without the bands and chains. Plus you got info on acc work. I got the westside book but it's a puzzle of information and there's no template. If youre looking for something great for the commercial gym you might try the old school westside with percent and add some conjugate...it work well for me.

For the mag, i hope it will be avaiable in Canada. plusa is a great mag but have to buy it used to get a good price for canada...

Case in point. I haven't read my February Issue of PLUSA, yet, and all the issues through July are already here.

I'am a LIB send me a free issue
thanks

I've gotten PLUSA since it came out in the 70s. Back then, all that was available was Bob Hoffman's MD magazine that had limited PL articles, meet results and listings. It was great when PLUSA debuted. B&W print. No color pictures. Script handwriting font. I think it measured as an 11.5x17 folded in half. It's still here because it delivers and it's still providing what people want. Mike has done a great job.

That being said, it's always nice to have another point of view and flavor on something.

In full support of this venture. Mark Bell is taking on a large endeaver, one that hopefully will provide another outlet to promote the sport. Good luck Mark and Andee, hope it works out for you.

Congratulations Mark and Andee...

Will you please do an article on one of my favorite BenchPressers. Keith Parrish?
He is one hot man!mmmmmm

Looking forward to it!

No Excuses...Just results

Will it be in book stores?

I think Mark is going to put top powerlifting competitions and lifters on his mag and take out the rest.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Like Mark said in an earlier post, we have no intention of trying to compete directly with PLUSA, they are a great magazine and do a great job. We hope to give you something a little different each issue. We are very excited about our debut and encourage any and all feedback! As for meet directors, please contact me at powermagazine@ymail.com with results, photos and upcoming info. We won't be able to include everyone, but would like to include as many as we can in every issue.
See you at Worlds!
Andee Bell

Why wouldnt you be able to include everyone, Powerlifting USA does? Then who is in and who is out? Why would we buy a book if our stuff isn't in it but everyone else is? What can of advertising is that? Seriously, I am not trying to be a butt hole about it but why would we take the time to send you info and then you not put it in the magazine. I bet ALL the SPONSORS and paid ADVERTISERS make it in there won't they? Oh well guess we will just stay with PLUSA and keep promoting them since they have always been there for us. Who wants to bet this will be a book of equipment dealers and so called sponsors of the book. We will soon see. What else would it be if all the up coming meets and results aren't going to be in it? You have to admit that makes NO sense. Sorry.

...calm down, take a breath.

I'd be in favor of only listing results from the top meets. Sports Illustrated doesn't list local softball results does it? It only covers the top in each sport. It's time powerlifting stopped catering to egos where everyone gets a first place trophy. We should build up the top lifters instead of constantly trying to tear them down.

Well it sounds like if you want to continue to thumb thru pages of meet results from pages of meets, then pick up PLUSA, but if you want to (gasp!) read about other aspects of powerlifting, then maybe you should give this new magazine a try. Good point Wild Iron.

I can't wait to get the first issue of this new mag!!! Way to go big man MARK!

Powerlifting is a world-wide sport. Please keep information that way. USA is only a Nation among many that powerlifting is enjoyed. So, please embrace the world with your new magazine?

Did you really just bitch about the fact that the people who PAY to have their shit published will actually have it published but those who are looking for free page space might not get it? Are you retarded?

I agree with Marcus. I dont give a rats ass about the guy who got 1st place in a meet where he went unopposed in the 35-39yr old class, 148lb class lol. The people that bitch the most in this sport are the ones who are never in the top for their weight classes. GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!! No one cares (maybe a few) if a 220lb guy benches 600lbs in a shirt, its old news these days.

PLUSA is a wonderful magazine and Ive been reading it for 10yrs and will continue to read it every month for prob another 40yrs.

Will you please do an article on my favorite bench presser in the World (ME)!!!!!!!!!

I'm really psyched about this. I'm sure the magazine is going to be great. Mark, I wish you well in your new endeavor.

Show me all the best raw lifting coverage and you have my support along with a large group of us down south here!! Good luck!

Do you think people are going to pay you to publish there stuff? No they are not and they will just tell the people that there results are still in powerlifting USA and only Powerlifting USA because they are the one that supports the sport and not just themselves. You guys are really sitting yourseves up to be failures but.
Bitching? No i am not bitching, I couldn't care less and this you will soon learn. People will not buy your mag just because you wrote it, just dont care either. Meet directors and promoters will not pay you shit and there you go. Your friends might but how many friends do you have that are promoters meet directors and or state chairs? No use in arguing, we will soon see who is right and who is wrong.

PL USA LOGO IS NOT OUT of date. its been the same since 1985. magazine . still has simmons and biasiotto . still agood mag though ..

why do poeple argue about magazines? so silly.....
