Michael Bruegger Dies at Age 47
On June 29, German deadlift great Michael Bruegger died at the age of 47. No official statement has been given regarding his cause of death. Unofficial reports cite cardiac arrest.
Bruegger won the 1989 WPC World Championships and earned a bronze medal at the 1992 IPF World Championships. Bruegger holds the 16th ranked deadlift of all-time at 275. He achieved that ranking by deadlifting 855 pounds in a WPC meet in 1994. In his career, he also bench pressed over 600 pounds raw as a guest lifter.
