Ryan De Witt Stars at AAU BP/DL/PP Nationals

As promised, Ryan De Witt was the star at last weekend's AAU Bench Press, Deadlift, and Push-Pull National Championships in Vista, California. De Witt (275) bench pressed 585 pounds raw on a fourth attempt to take the meet's best bencher award. The press ranks De Witt second on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

In other raw action, Mathew Reep (165) pressed 369 pounds, Mark Mathews Jr. (181) put up 402 pounds, and John Cooper (shw) pressed 501 pounds.

The Nationals was held in conjunction with the North American Powerlifting Championships. Eugene Chung (275) highlighted that event with a 1,763 pound raw total. The total ranks Chung thirteenth on the Lifter Rankings. It included a 705 pound deadlift, 584 pound squat, and 473 pound bench press.

Thanks to Jon and PL Watch for posting these results.
Ryan was indeed terrific with his 585.3 raw breaking his previous mark of 584. On this day 601 would have gone easy. However the Best Lifter Hvy in the N.A. Was actually 57 year old Alvin Waldon's 451 at 242 raw (actual wt was only 236.8). By the way Ryan was way under the 275 class limit. As mentioned Mathew Reep made his AAU debut and was sensational. 19 year old Mark Mathews Jr OPENED with a solid 402 in the raw 181 class. Joe DiMarco was a light 220 but hit 275.5 raw at 78 and new lifter Bill Apgar showed age is not an issue with his raw 253 as a light 220, and oh yes he is 80 years old.
Some other BL award winners:
Helene Tropp age 70 at 100 pounds DL 242 and 11 bp , both raw.
Michelle Watts @ 123 raw hit 220, 159, 264
Karen Villanueva 281 raw dl @ 114
Colin Bonneau (Canada) age 61 with a 1444 total.Colin lifted both raw and equipped.
Brent Tanaka 1440 at 165 Jr
Tony Rodriquez hit a 581 raw dl @ 181

The addition of the National Bench and Deadlift to the meet was a last minute decision, but the lifters crossed over to the Raw Open and Open in good numbers resulting in some deep classes.
It was always nice to have lifters from Mexico and Canada as well as our wonderful National Guard Team from the east coast.

Look for these lifters at the AAU World Bench, Deadlift and Pushpull plus the AAU International Powerlifting Championships in December.
Will Ryan have to deal with Art "Superman" Jones at 275 ? Can anyone beat Narbe Mansourian at 148 ? Will Mark Mathews have what it takes to hold back Phil Cannizzaro at 181.
In Laughlin we are shooting for 350+ lifters, 12 or more countries and will be seeing the return of many of our equipped lifters who have already qualified.

Way to go Michelle & Karen!

Thanks
Many of the lifters are competing with Steve at the USPF Nationals. California lifters have some great choices with AAU, USPF, USAPL and WABDL to name just a few. Many lifters enjoy all of these events.
The World's in Laughlin are looking huge thus far.
