Dave Hoff Benches 805 Lbs

Dave Hoff (275) bench pressed 805 pounds on Saturday at the IPA Xtreme Push-Pull in Columbus, Ohio. That ranks him fifth all-time and second on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings.

Hoff, who is 21, was unsuccessful in his bid to also deadlift over 800 pounds, missing an 805 pound pull. He finished with a 755 pound effort.

I'm guessing around 5'7, cut weight to 242? Pretty huge for a 242er.
I think he rushed the set-up on the 800, the strength was clearly there but he let his weight shift forward onto his toes and lost it. On both attempts his hips don't come through quickly enough but his lower back is strong enough that he locks it out. Something minor to work on, but he should have +25 more pounds in him if he synchronizes hip/knee extension and cleans up efficiency.

I agree...the the back strength is there to pull more than 805 ..it just went up easy!

I miss sumos like that all the time, very frustrating. It is so easy to lose a sumo in front like that because your base from front to back is so narrow (because toes and knees are pointed out). I find that really focusing on keeping the weight moving and looking up at top helps--if you let it slow down near lock out and the weight hangs in front just a bit you are screwed--you will probably hitch to regain balance or lose it over your toes, or overcompesate by throwing your weight too far back and falling on your ass.

wow if he would have gotten the 805 deadlift he would have had a 1610 sub total ! i cant even do that in 3 lifts ! does any one have video of the bench ?
