April Shumaker has Big Outing at USAPL Europa

April Shumaker (105) had a big outing on Saturday at the USAPL Europa Show of Champions at the Europa Sports Expo in Orlando, Florida. Shumaker recorded a 799 pound total that was good for the best lifter award and ties her for first on the Powerlifting Watch Lifter Rankings. Shumaker defeated the number one ranked raw lifter in the world, Taylar Stallings (181), for the best lifter award.

In addition, Shumaker's 209 pound bench press ranks her first on the Lifter Rankings and was just shy of the USAPL American Record of 214 pounds. Her 319 pound meet deadlift ranks her second. She added a 270 pound squat.

Here is video of Shumaker's 319 pound deadlift:

good lifts to both females but Taylar competed raw and April had gear so that was pretty exciting to see who would win

April is super!

Congratulations!!!

hello April that was a good challenge for me to compete against you in gear, but i was wondering if you would want to take this challenge,RAW UNITY MEET,me against you no gear,I am asking the nicest way I can think of on the computer, and i hope people would not take this the wrong way that way it gives us both enough time to get ready for a good show and again it was nice to share the platform with you.

We like challenges at the Raw Unity Meet :)

Just wondering, I thought USAPL had a both geared and raw divisions? How could she take best lifter is she was geared and Taylar was raw? That would put them in different categories.

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength Philippians 4:13

Taylar, I would be willing to compete against you at the raw unity meet next year. I'll be competing at shw.

Also, Eric, I believe I have to get a qualifying total beforehand and it can be in any federation, correct? (I haven't done a full power meet yet.) And do you know if you'll have it in January again?

Is the challenge based on formula? I mean April S. is only 105 and your 181... April is the new queen of the 105 class. Cheryl A. better get to training! This is awesome.

What was the pay outs in this meet

raw pl, raw bench, bench reps, equipped pl, equipped bp??????

could some one please list the pay outs and who won?

thanks

Hello April.

Yes, your qualifying total for Raw Unity can be done at any meet; provided that you compete under that federation's rules.

Yes, Raw Unity 2010 will be a 2 day event and it will be January 16-17.

HUGE congratulations to April!! Way to represent petite powerlifters everywhere, strong woman :) I bet folks stopped you everywhere again, to talk about the fun/novelty of seeing tiny folks moving crazy things…

I predict a new American BP Record very soon… as I mentioned a couple months ago, she retired, had kids, came back with another name (it used to be Delmore) -- but I had seen her lifting accomplishments in the USPF records. This lady holds an all-time historical record 220.5 lbs in our weight class, which she set back in the 90’s.

It’s quite the honor -- and an absolute blast -- to compete with her. When we lifted at Women’s Nationals, she pushed me to give an absolute 110% -- and I needed that push to personally improve. Makes it a lot more fun and an incentive to try harder (I am working on getting my BP at least moving again, lol).

Just awesome lifting!

to April Mathis that would be a good match up you guys in June at the Sunshine State Games

Congratulations to April Shumaker. She's a champion in many ways in life.

Hi Cheryl!
Besides the honor of lifting against great lifters like you, that is one the the best things about this sport. - absolutely great.

As I say to everyone Cheryl is a true National champion in every sense of the word, and has made an indelible mark on powerlifting with her own presence in the sport

I am training for bench-only right now. I am competing most likely at APF Louisiana States in September, and plan on going for at least 405 raw there. That is my main goal before I do anything else.

The next meet after that I will do full-power, so as to get a raw total. Right now it would most likely be APF Southern States, as that would be in December, and use that as a qualifier for the Raw Unity Meet right here in Tampa then.

I would also consider SPF Raw Pro Meet November 15, 2009 in East Ridge, Tennessee.

My team competes at APF meets, because that is where the biggest numbers are being put up in Florida. And since they also have a raw division, I compete there.

I mentioned the Raw Unity meet, since Taylar had said she would compete there, and it's a meet where many great raw lifters will be at. It's not associated with any of the federations anyways.

Otherwise, I mentioned the SPF meet since it's a raw pro meet with cash prizes, although much farther to drive to.

It's a different caliber of meet is what I'm saying. Raw Unity and the SPF Raw Pro meet are both pro-level meets with some of the best raw lifters in the country likely competing at. Either of those would fall within a timeframe that I need to prepare for a full-power meet, after I get done with my bench press goal.

Besides that it's nice that they offer cash prizes to the winners. USAPL doesn't offer pro-level meets, besides arguably the Europa (which didn't have a raw division). Neither do many other federations.

I have no real preference for any federation. I just want to compete where the best are competing. I offered the challenge to Taylar as I believe that she is one of very few female raw lifters that I know of lifting today that I would consider a real challenge to me. Although, I am hoping that other great lifters will come to one of the pro meets as well.

April,

As long as I know for sure that Tommy and Jon aren't holding the team meet in October we're still planning to hold a full meet that month with a raw division as we did with the last one. Most likely we'll have it at the DoubleTree again. It would be easier for you to get a full meet in a few months out rather than the month before the Raw Unity Meet. It would be great if you could make it. I'll email you and the other TBB team members when we have more details. You can email me at lightweightpower@aol.com if you have any questions.

Congratulations again to all of the lifters at the Europa!

Thanks so much for your very kind words, Bill and April!! That means a lot coming from you, whom I respect greatly, and will always be appreciated.

Your accomplishments are legendary and inspirational, and they continue -- you’ve also proven that you can always come back to the weights, successfully, after taking time away and being a mom. For example, there was a lifter from Poland I had met at the IPF World’s in '05 who had met my young son there, and she said she was concerned that she’d love to have kids of her own someday but would gain a bunch of weight and would never be able to get back to the sport she loves, and would lose all her strength, etc… Obviously that does not have to be the case! You did not have to sacrifice that, and you came back strong. It can be quite a balancing act but worth it.

I haven’t lifted in any meets yet since Women’s Nationals and am considering meet possibilities before the PanAms. As a former Flagler County resident, one of my possible options might in FL :) We'll see... maybe we’ll see each other again soon!

Take care, and keep up the awesome lifting!!

Brian, I'll email you.

I apologize for this going so off topic, but everyone replied on here instead of by email.

I don't want to take anything away from April Schumaker, as this was really about her. From the picture and videos, it looks to me that she done a real good job. Triple bodyweight deadlift ain't no joke. So, I would like to congratulate you for that, April.

Why do y'all care so much where it is anyways? If y'all are going to the raw unity meet either way, what's the big difference? If you must know why I do not like USAPL, I will tell you. I don't like the bench rule that your feet must be flat on the floor. I don't bench that way and don't intend to.

If it's that you don't want to give me the time till January to prepare for it, then just say that is the reason why.

I'll just leave it at this: I will qualify for the raw unity meet, and I will show up and compete there in January. It'll be Taylar's choice whether she wants to show up as well.

Anything else any of you want to say to me, reply to my email, which is already posted above, because this is the last time I am replying on here. This wasn't about me or Taylar. It was about April Shumaker's performance.
