gilbert michaud why not

there are definitely some questionable calls judges make for lifts, it's a lot of weight, it's very competitive, it can't be corrected by just having them do it again. If they got it once and a judge makes a bad call it's not the lifters fault it's the judges fault and should be able to call a video review if it is a questionable call.

gotta say im a bit confused... i thought that players in big time sports, NFL is the only one that comes to mind, desired instant replay so that the right calls (when critical) are made thus aiding the better team to rise to the top. is the concern in powerlifting the time and effort that it will take to produce and execute such a replay system or the fact that you wont get away with junk lifts?

supposing there is a quick and cheap way to judge squat depth using technology instead of judges would people embrace this or reject it? you would know instantly and definitely without judging error or bias whether you hit depth or not and no one to blame but yourself if you didnt. the tools exists for such a system why arent they being used?

video is fine for deadlift and bench but the angle on squat can make a lift look good or bad depending on the angle

I think if any fed passed this they would be using an official camera positioned where a judge would be viewing the lift. As far as crowd footage you are right its more difficult to judge from an awkward angle.

I personaly think it would be a good idea... Back in '03 I was Benching and was told I didnt lockout out the weight, when I asked the ref He told me the bar slid on the up right and was stuck on the pin and thats why I didnt get the lift... If you watch the Videos and look at the pics It never touched the bench at all... and was lockedout... the lift was 585@162 and at that time would have been the 3 Biggest Bench at 165lbs. It sucked to have someone take something away from you that you've worked so hard for. There was a Video of the lift and someone brought it to the ref and he watch it and when I showed him the lockout he looked at me and walked away... didnt say a word to me... Video Replays would be helpful in times like these..

just my 2 cents
