Masters Lifter Rankings

I have received a number of requests to begin publishing a set of Masters Lifter Rankings at Powerlifting Watch. Depending upon how these were constructed, the effort to maintain them could be from mild to extremely significant. To determine whether it's feasible to launch them, your feedback is needed. If you're not currently a subscriber to the Lifter Rankings, would you pay the $12 a year subscription fee if some sort of Masters Rankings were kept? At a minimum, of the following which would be required to prompt you to subscribe:

1. No separate Masters Rankings but put a notation in the existing Rankings for Masters lifters.
2. Separate Masters Rankings (top 20) not broken down by ages.
3. Separate Masters Rankings (top 20) broken down in 10 year increments.
4. Separate Masters Rankings (top 20) broken down in 5 year increments.

Please respond here, using your name, or email me with answers to the two questions above.

If there is enough interest, I will go ahead with these Rankings.

I probably would like to see where all of us old guys stack up, so yes.

I turn 40 in April, so I imagine I would like to know.

This would be a very well received concept. I know for a fact my lifting partner Hubbs would subscribe if there were Master's rankings. His 606 is an AAPF World Record but doesn't come close to making the multi-ply 275 Open Rankings.

I would subscribe for 2,3, or 4...

By the way, $12 is a bargain for all that this site offers.

I would like to see a masters ranking

I already subscribe, but I think a master's ranking would be great. Maybe broken up like the IPF (50-59, 60-69), that would be easier to keep track. It would show how great some of these old legends really are.

Yes, for a masters list...I would subscribe.

Jon I'm not even a Master (40+) and I would pay to see the rankings. I believe it would be more credible if no age groups were involved though. 40 through 50 year olds would make up a lot of the lists while 60+ you would be looking to fill in the blanks. I think the best choice would be a Master ranking list (top 20) for each weight class with a column that shows the lifters actual age.

just my 1 cent

Putt Houston.... now with more Bom Chicka Wahwahhhhhh

I already do subscribe, but I would love to see master's rankings - 10 yr, increments are good enough for me. I agree that 12 bucks is a deal - would happily pay 15 for more specific rankings.

Proudly sponsored by Titan Support Systems Inc. and Gold's Gym/Rainbow City, Al.

I started subscribing last year. A ranking as in either 3 or 4 would keep me subscribing for sure.

Would definitely subscribe to 3 or 4

Through passion,I gain strength

I already subscribe and I'm already on the list, but it would be nice to be on another list. LOL

i dont lift as a master but i would like to see where i fit in at 45 yrs old. and yes i already am a subscriber... Brad Bishop

I would like to see a master list. I have been meaning to join anyway that would be even better to have the master list.

3or4 would be great to see how we all compare to each other

I made 47th in the bench press single ply 148ers and at 57 years old. I liked to see where I would stand against others in my age group. I'm also a subscriber and plan on staying. 12 bucks is a deal for all the information supplied through Powerlifting watch.

Great idea. Sure to get many more subscribers

For the extra work, why not do the Masters? You would generate more revenue either way.

Oh, I am not even a master but I would love to see the 10 year increments.

I would like to see: Separate Masters Rankings (top 20) broken down in 10 year increments. I already subscribe, but I know others from our gym who would as well since we have so many Master lifters.

Yes I would like to see that breakdown.

I too am already a subscriber and I would like to see anything you can put together for Masters (I am 44).

I think 10 year increments would be great.

My personal pet-peeve exspression is "like the IPF does". Any time I see this I am automatically annoyed. JUST MY OPINION.

I would pay to see it.

I started in this sport as a Master lifter so yes count me in! Maybe we can even get a story about us old folks into the AARP magazine!

Already a subscriber, but I would like to see the list as well.

Letto

can't afford more expenses this year, or i'd subscribe to this site (unlike feds i'm on a budget and have to stick to it). however, i would like to suggest a notation on the open list for the masters, keep the masters on there too. after all, a master lifter who is beating the young folk should be honored well, openly.

i think you'll have more difficulty keeping up with master rankings because we have more masters lately? if you're adding raw already, that's another thing to track. if you can afford the time and energy and maybe money required, go for it - but where would you stop? 90's?

it's an honor being on your top lifters list and you're more accurate than plusa. i just wish that for those of us trying to make our house payments and limiting our meets in 2009, you would put up the top 3 in categories for free for us to get motivation.

with a lot of us trying to mend our old things to do meets in, it's going to be a more difficult year for fun things like joining PW. I hope we're all more prosperous in 2010...and still healthy enough to compete.

Ellen,

Before I went to IPF Bench Masters Worlds, I wrote to the editor, hoping to get coverage of the team. To no avail....

There is a very large and somewhat prosperous contingent of Master lifters who would welcome this recognition and be challenged to "get on the List".

I see more and more Master Lifters in our sport. 10 year increments is a good start...but the difference between a 40 yr old lifter and a 50 year old lifter is huge! 5 Years seems more realistic, when comparing abilities.

I agree with this, since I deal with these lifters every day. I think it will benifit you and the lifters if it was every 5 years.

One other thing I notice or at least seems this way to me: More lifters between 40 and 49 lift equipped but really seems like more lifters 50 and over lift Raw, or in our federation anyway.

Yes I would pay to see this list, it is well worth 12.00, again I have to keep records too, so I know the work and time that is consumed to do so.

Already a subscriber Jon. Would welcome the idea. Thanks for your efforts...
Chainman....

Absolutely

Masters would be great! Just add a note to the already listed lifters if they make it in the top 20. No need to start a new one. I've made the 198's and 220's both and I'm 49. I like to see how I do against the Kids. lol. Thanks for a great site!

Yes! It would be great. Tested vs non tested would even make it better but no matter comparing all the Master lifters in ten year classes would be real fun to see! I'd pay the 12 bucks a year for it!

The $12 subscription fee is minimal for the value this link provide and something I already pay. The addition of the masters is a great idea.

Well, Jon, I guess you know where I stand after sending you that email asking if there was any easy way to sort through the 19 feds that offer raw divisions to see where I stand in the 60+ masters' category. So, an emphatic, hopeful yes to 3 and 4.

(Maybe I shouldn't reduce your motivation by saying this, but I'll continue to subscribe whether or not you take on the task.)
