Toshihiko Noda Sets IPF World Record

Japan's Toshihiko Noda (148) set a single lift IPF Bench Press World Record at the Asian Powerlifting Federation Asian Bench Press Championships which were held December 6 in Hong Kong. Noda pressed 509 pounds/231kg on his first attempt to break the record of 507 pounds/230kg held by Russian Alexander Gromov. Noda went on to miss his next two attempts at 525 pounds/238.5kg.
In other action, Japan's Daisuke Midote (shw) successfully bench pressed 710 pounds/322.5kg but missed an IPF World Record attempt with 782 pounds/355kg on his final press. Midote holds the current World Record at 779 pounds/353.5kg. Midote also won the best lifter award, narrowly edging out Noda.
Chinese Taipei's Tsung-Ting Hsieh (132) pressed 429 pounds/195kg.
Japanese benching superstar Daiki Kodama (181) did not compete in the event.
On the women's side, Japan's Kaori Nagaya (114) won the best lifter honors for her 253 pound/115kg press.
