Is Iron Island still open? The website is a deadlink, and there's a "gym" called "South Shore Fitness" at that street address. Is any of the equipment mentioned by Jeffloo86 still there?

Iron Island is long gone. South Shore Fitness got rid of all the power equipment. But they still give on hell of a spinning class.

yeah only a couple of powerlifters left, i liked it when they worked out there, to watch them move insane amount of weight, but they smelled like rotten eggs and tookup 1/2 the gym, so good riddens fat boys

The anonymous author of the last note is the former owner of the gym.

I entered a few powerlifting contests with Ralph Raiola back in the early '80's when we worked out at the old Jack LaLanes in Cederhurst/Inwood area. Dr Ken and LYle Alzado would often make guest appearances. Tony Pandolfo was also a regular. Ralph taught me how to squat and deadlift and was a true legend in the NY area powerlifting scene. I moved to FL in 1992, shortly after Iron Island opened. Continued success, Ralph and thanks for the great memories!

So are there any serious PL gyms around the RVC/Oceanside area then?
